WHAT I'M FIGHTING FOR |
Restoring the health of the Murrumbidgee River and delivering water security for the ACT I secured $55 million to support critical improvements to the health and resilience of the Upper Murrumbidgee River. This funding is being used to enhance water flow, support riverbank stabilisation, and address governance issues stemming from intergovernmental water-sharing agreements. The result is a healthier, more sustainable river system that supports both the natural environment and the communities that rely on it. |

A Duty of Care on climate change My first Private Senators’ Bill, the Duty of Care Bill, seeks to compel the Federal Government to consider the health and wellbeing of children and future generations before approving new fossil fuel projects. This principle reflects growing global recognition that governments have a moral and legal obligation to protect people from the worsening impacts of climate change. I will continue to fight for the bill to be legislated. Read more at www.adutyofcare.com. |
Combating invasive species I negotiated for a $10 Million investment in gene drive technology to better manage the huge impact invasive species are having on our environment and agricultural industry. This cutting-edge approach aims to reduce invasive species populations, thereby protecting Australia's unique ecosystems and native wildlife from the ongoing threat posed by feral cats, foxes, and other invasive animals. |

Increasing the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax (PRRT) Australians deserve a fair return on the sale of our natural resources. As it stands, Australian taxpayers have not received a single cent of PRRT in gas exports from offshore LNG projects. This is despite the fact that we have sold billions of dollars of gas exports. I will continue to push for reform of the PRRT to ensure that Australians benefit more equitably from the sale of public resources, with funds redirected into vital public services and infrastructure. |
Holding companies to account on climate risk I negotiated a pivotal amendment that compels companies to better model and disclose the physical risks posed by climate change. This reform promotes corporate accountability and ensures around climate change its impact on financial performance. It provides investors and stakeholders with crucial information to inform sustainable decision-making and capital allocation. |

Comprehensive environmental law reform Australia's environmental laws are no longer fit for purpose, with experts, businesses and environmental groups calling for urgent reform. I have been working hard for wholesale reform of our laws to ensure that the places and species we love receive the protection they deserve. I want to see the health of nature at the centre of Australia's development approvals process. |
