Friends of Grasslands and Team Pocock are joining forces to form a work party and remove woody weeds from the shore of Lake Burley Griffin.
ACT and Federal Government lands in central Canberra are home to critically endangered Button Wrinklewort and Box-Gum Grassy Woodlands. Unfortunately the area is in a poor state due to neglect and mismanagement.
There are four main tasks that we will undertake: a) mulching around our plantings from earlier in the year; b) cutting and daubing small cotoneaster shrubs; c) clearing dead woody weeds and stacking the branches for chipping; and d) rubbish removal.
Please wear solid footwear and bring sun protection and drinking water. Work parties will be cancelled if the weather is unsuitable: a) the forecast is 35 deg C+, b) it is a total fire ban day, c) there is lightening, d) air quality is hazardous, or e) there is heavy rain. Tools are provided for work parties.
