When I was elected to serve our community back in May 2022, I took over former Senator Zed Seselja’s electorate office out in Gungahlin as he had just signed a new lease on it.
While I love being part of the Gungahlin community I’ve had a lot of feedback that the office is very small, out of the way and hard to get to for constituents seeking help from me and my team - especially for those who live south of the lake.
I’ve been liaising with the federal government about the potential to move to a more central location and have found a space in Dickson that meets the Department of Finance’s requirements. Being new to politics, what I didn’t realise is how expensive fitouts are, especially with mandatory security requirements. The quote I’ve been given is for just over $1 million to move. I’ve spoken with officials trying to break this down because it seems very, very expensive for an office move and to see if there are other, cheaper options available. This is a lot of money that could theoretically go towards other pressing areas of government expenditure. They’ve told me there isn't, so the question now is to stay where I am in Gungahlin or commit to the move (and related expenditure) as a number of others have done since the election.
I want to keep serving our community as best I can, and be as accessible to as many of you as possible so would appreciate your view if you could take 2 minutes to share it below.
