Housing and homelessness is one of the biggest challenges we face and the top concern for so many people in our community.
There are solutions, from legislating a ten-year national plan to measured reforms of negative gearing and capital gains tax, more investment in key worker, social and affordable housing, a sensible discussion around immigration, how we licence, train and support tradespeople and subcontractors - but they need political courage and multipartisan commitments to implement.
As a community we need to have the great housing debate and decide the kind of future we want to shape.
Join me and a panel of experts to share your experiences and go through what the next federal parliament can and should do better to tackle this issue.
Expert Panel:
- Professor Hal Pawson, UNSW City Futures Research Centre: Analysis of major party policies and potential for tax reform: negative gearing, capital gains tax, stamp duty - what’s the opportunity?
- Jess LeWatt, Amplify: How community attitudes are changing on key housing issues
- Wendy Hayhurst, CHIA CEO: The vital role of social and community housing
- Paula McGrady: First Nations Peoples’ housing needs
- Frances Crimmins, YWCA CEO: Housing vulnerable cohorts & funding frontline services
