31 July 2022: Santa Speedo Shuffle

Come and join Senator David Pocock and his community of volunteers for a lap around Lake Burley Griffin at the annual Santa Speedo Shuffle on Sunday July 31.

WHEN

Sunday, 31 July, 2022
9.45 am

WHERE
The Jetty, Lake Burley Griffin, Canberra, ACT

The Santa Speedo Shuffle tradition was started in 2012 by Andrew Prouse, a much-loved and passionate advocate for the cystic fibrosis community. Alongside wife Heidi, Andrew decided to raise funds and awareness for cystic fibrosis ACT by lapping the lake in nothing but speedos and a Santa hat. Since then, hundreds of Canberrans have supported Andrew’s cause by braving the Canberra winter alongside him and gaining sponsorship to do so.

To get involved, register yourself and your family on the official Santa Speedo Shuffle website here, being sure to join ‘Team Pocock’. If you'd rather not participate and still wish to support the cause, you can make a donation here.

Team Pocock will be meeting at The Jetty at Lake Burley Griffin at 9.45am in preparation for the official 10am start. After the 5km bridge-to-bridge lap, we will have a catch-up picnic on the lawns of peace Park (or lunch at Bookplate, the National Library cafe).

To support the cause, participants are encouraged to wear speedos of any colour, although red, black and green are encouraged. Tights underneath are welcome, and if speedos aren't your thing, come in whatever festive theme you are comfortable with - Santa suit, ugly sweater, reindeer antlers etc.

Funds raised from the Santa Speedo Shuffle go to Cystic Fibrosis ACT, a Canberra-based non-profit organisation that provides essential medical equipment, nutritional supplements and sports grants to local families with a child or adult living with cystic fibrosis.

This event has been chosen as the first in a series of community events for Team Pocock. These events provide a space for volunteers to catch up and stay engaged with doing politics differently while supporting our local community. If you have a suggestion for an upcoming community event you believe we should be supporting, please get in contact with our events team via [email protected] using the subject line 'Community Event'.

It’ll be great to see you there!
