Plastic recycling

I strongly believe that the Government should uphold its commitment to the 2025 National Packaging Targets in reducing plastic waste and maximising the amount of recyclable and compostable packaging in the system. Greater product stewardship and more accountability for products that produce damaging waste are urgently needed.

I will continue to push the Government to take ambitious and urgent action to protect the species and places we love, including by ensuring that the Government upholds its commitment to reducing plastic waste and introducing product stewardship schemes for packaging.

Gambling advertising

I support a total, phased-in ban on gambling advertising, consistent with the multipartisan-backed recommendations of the Murphy Inquiry: You Win Some, You Lose More.

I have spoken up extensively on this issue publicly, as well as pushing it privately with the government. There is clearly enough support in the parliament to legislate such a ban and we should get on with it as a priority.

Solar Feed-In Tariffs

I have been concerned about how people who have invested in putting solar panels on their roofs are seeing dwindling returns from our energy market.

I have asked the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water and energy regulators about this issue during Estimates and at every other available opportunity.

I do not believe that the current tariffs represent the true value of solar being fed into the grid and have been advocating for changes that will improve this for households. I have also been advocating for better incentives for household batteries in order to assist what is referred to as the 'solar duck curve'. My detailed thoughts about the reform pathway can be found here

In short, the value of rooftop solar to the grid must be better reflected in tariffs paid to households.

This is an important policy issue and one that I will continue to push for during the next term if re-elected.
