There has been a lot of discussion about the Australian Government’s changes to the Fair Work Act 2009.
Following a month of intensive consultation with workers, businesses, unions and employer organisations and detailed negotiations with government, the Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill passed the Senate last week.
These wide-ranging reforms will usher in a broad suite of changes designed primarily to lift wage, especially in low-paid, highly feminised industries and do more to close what has been a worsening gender pay gap.
Some deliver on asks from business, like changes to make the Better Off Overall Test work better and facilitate bargaining, others introduce newer elements, like expanded multi-enterprise bargaining.
Many businesses, including small businesses, are seeking further information about the changes and how they will impact them.
Senator Pocock is hosting a virtual webinar with the Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations, the Hon Tony Burke MP, and representatives of the department to talk through the changes and answer questions.
