Cashless Debit Card

On Wednesday 17 August 2022, Senator Pocock participated in his first committee hearing in Darwin.

The Community Affairs Legislation Committee is tasked with looking into the Social Security (Administration) Amendment (Repeal of Cashless Debit Card and Other Measures) Bill 2022.

This Bill is designed to meet an ALP election commitment to repeal the Cashless Debit Card (also known as the Indue card).

Senate committees allow deeper exploration of issues and how proposed legislation will affect communities by listening to and discussing it with the people the new laws will affect.

Senator Pocock heard evidence from a range of stakeholders including Northern Territory Council of Social Service, Aboriginal Peak Organisations Northern Territory, Traditional Credit Union, Darwin Community Legal Service, Northern Territory Women's Legal Services, among other witnesses.

More information on the inquiry, including copies of published submissions and other upcoming hearing dates is available here.
